EMILY WEHUNT/STAFF

Have you check out Gallery 221 yet? Gallery 221@HCC is located in the Learning Resource Center at the Dale Mabry Campus. Thanks to funding from our Student Government Association, all exhibits are free. Now through September 28 th Gallery 221 is exhibiting Taking Place, drawings by Tampa native Josette Urso. After graduating from the University of South Florida with her BFA and MFA, Urso spent a number of years as an instructor, and has had numerous shows throughout the United States, as well as overseas. Her work featured in Gallery 221 includes multiple ink and brushpen drawings, watercolor paintings, a full wall length mural, and a captivating video project. Urso’s work in this exhibit is greatly inspired from her current home, New York City. In her artist statement, Urso claims “I make exploratory drawings working directly and urgently response to my immediate environment.” Her detailed artwork showcases her personal exploration of the city and has a powerful way of drawing viewers in. This multimedia show is only “taking place” for a little while longer. Gallery 221 is open Monday – Thursday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Make sure to head over before it is too late! There will be two more exciting shows happening this semester. Charles Parkhill, Wood You Know will be exhibited from October 4th – November 1st. Following that will be the FaSta exhibit featuring faculty work from November 8th – December 10th.
