Anthony Travieso works out at the fitness center for at least 45 minutes 3-4 days a week.

There is a fresh new club to add to the growing list of activities at the Ybor campus. The Fitness club is back!

After a short absence, the Fitness club has been reinstated, and is now open and taking applications.

Meeting are being held at the Fitness Center located on the Ybor building, or in the student lounge.

The clubs meeting days range from every Thursday of the week or every other Thursday. The meetings generally start at around 2:15 p.m.

Anthony Travieso, a first year college student, took on the role of president and Jaylan James as vice president.

Travieso, 29, spent six years in the army before enrolling to Hillsborough Community College to earn a degree in Sports Nutrition. He served in the infantry of the 82nd airborne division, and incorporates military style training to the newly revamped club.

Travieso is also the one responsible for the reinstatement of the Fitness Club.

The club was reinstated in early November 2015, after Travieso was approached in the fitness center to start the club.

After signing on to become club president, Travieso sought out to his board members. He did so by contacting classmates he knew, and considered them to be leaders trustworthy enough to be part of the club.

After filing the necessary paperwork, the fitness club was brought back to the Ybor campus. With it comes a new style of fitness. Travieso plans on brining several new variables of fitness such as hypertrophy weight training, working on body physic, dieting and even achieving a body builder frame.

Travieso is well diverse in several styles of fitness, and is open to help anyone in achieving his or her fitness goals. “I just look at it if you’re willing to learn about fitness then I’m willing to teach you about it,” he says.

In his personal time, Travieso is training to compete in national physique competitions, and he plans on becoming a professional fitness model within two years.

With his background in physique competitions and as a non-commissioned officer, he will be bringing a lot of personal knowledge when it comes to how he will run meetings.

He adds, “I’m going to be teaching people how to do cardio weightlifting… lose weight while lifting, and I’m going to teach people how to get big while lifting weights.”

From buddy carries to cardio vascular workouts, and teaching the proper work out techniques, Travieso and James will be handling most of the meeting as both are certified trainers.

James is a certified personal trainer, while Travieso is a certified strength and conditioning coach.

A recent hospital stay however caused Travieso to not only take a break from fitness, but from the club as well. He is gradually returning to working out, taking it easy on his body, which he claims is not at 100 percent.

Travieso reports an estimated 25 individuals have signed up, and encourages more people to attend their meetings. The few meetings that have taken place have been great according to Travieso.
