Lady Hawk swoops to the Swamp

Robinson’s skills drew attention from multiple universities.

It’s a good day to be a fan of HCC’s women’s basketball team! Alexis Robinson, a sophomore guard for the Lady Hawks basketball team, has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the University of Florida. Coming out of Westside High School in Macon, Georgia, she wasn’t offered any scholarships to play basketball for any universities. With hard work and fellowship on the basketball team, and with the coaching and fine-tuning of coach Jennifer Sepielli, Robinson has a bright future ahead of her as a Lady Gator.

In the words of her coach, Jennifer Sepielli, “For her to come here and improve so much in a year is outstanding. I know when she’s in the hands of Florida, and she has an athletic trainer and can develop and grow athletically, they’ll take her even further. I’m excited.” Sepielli continued, “It’s a testimony to her character and her growth. It’s just a success story. She wasn’t highly recruited out of high school, but had the body of a Division I athlete. It was just working on a few things and to have her buy in and she’s done it. I think she’ll transition perfectly with Coach Butler’s team. Beyond the court, with that coaching staff, she’s going to grow as a woman. Georgia, Memphis, South Carolina State, Florida Gulf Coast and a few other schools were interested in her, but Florida liked what they saw and they moved fast.”

There are few things as exciting than having had worked for months and months on end, having to dig into an almost spiritual part of yourself to find the drive to finish the workouts, practices, and keep up with school work. But nothing compares to the feeling of pride and overwhelming joy that comes from finally singing your name on that national letter of intent to the school of your dreams. For any athlete this is a major accomplishment, but this is an exceptionally joyous point of pride for Alexis and the entire Lady Hawks basketball team. Not only is it quiet a feat to be signed to a college, but more so from a community college.

Robinson is among others in a dynasty of prestigious basketball players to originate from HCC. Those include, Simiah Blought and Rachel Ried, both ladies are Hawk alumna, whom, are now playing for Troy University in Troy, Alabama. These ladies prove the point that with determination, tenacity, and drive to achieve any goal, all things are possible. Don’t forget to keep up with the Lady Hawks at their next home game, which will be taking place Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. at the Dale Mabry campus. Don’t forget Hawks, the more students that are there, the more they know we are here to support them! GO HAWKS!
